SANJAY GUPTA RIPS MICHAEL MOORE A NEW ONE

i love it: michael moore...speechless? someone got caught in a lie.

i can't believe i'm actually agreeing with CNN for a change...but sanjay gupta has actually done some good pieces over the years, especially about the negative effects of government red-tape on our health care system.

remember, it's a false dilemma moore is presenting, folks. no one likes our present health care system. gupta is not saying we *should* like our present health care system. he is simply saying that moore's portrayal of other countries' health care systems is naive at best, and purposefully misleading at worst. the government already runs much if not *most* of our health care system through medicare, medicaid, etc. the solution isn't to hand *more* of it over to the government, it is to get the government, insurance companies, ALL the middlemen out of it altogether and leave it up to doctors and their patients to keep costs low and the quality of medical care high because it is mutually beneficial to them both (and also because there would be a wider range of competition--so if they aren't doing their jobs properly, someone else will).

GUPTA asks michael moore two very pointed questions: why do you lie and say that the french health care system, for example, is "free"--when the french are swimming in debt and taxes (remember, taxation is a form of coercion folks)--and why do you want to turn over one of our most precious commodities and resources, namely, health care, to the government when michael moore himself has so roundly criticized how the government has mishandled our tax dollars time and time again--whether it be corporate welfare, the war in iraq, or what have you. the fact is, *we* should decide where our money/paycheck goes--not bureaucrats and their special interest cronies.

then he says, "well, it's not our government. it's the people in our government. we just need the right people in there." yeah, but as i have said time and time again: when you build the perfect toilet, the perfect shitter is bound to sit on it. our government is supposed to be designed in such a way that even when a president with dictatorial tendencies comes into power (like moore's beloved FDR, who was responsible for the "war powers act" among many other treasonous crimes to our constitution) he can do very little harm because the federal strings he can pull are very limited in size and scope, whereas the individual states that are closer to the wishes and desires of their local constituents deal with most of the social problems/issues. how far we have strayed from that ideal, with the never-ending expansion of federal power and usurpation of nearly *all* of the states rights, and how naive it is to think that we will always have the best and brightest bureaucrats working for us in washington who will never collude with corporate interests behind the scenes.

so fess up michael--YOU ARE THE ONE FUDGING THE FACTS. we have already turned our school system over to a government-run monopoly...look how well the federal department of education is handling things. now let's have the social engineers in washington have our health, too.
